Our Product Manager, Geetanjali, flagged a major dip in retention during the university Winter break, a time when students typically deprioritize structured learning. Backed by usage data from previous in-app challenges, she prompted us to rethink how we could drive motivation during off-peak periods.

Our design team quickly rallied together—brainstorming ways to turn passive users into active participants through compelling narratives, interaction hooks, and game-like incentives. We later expanded the idea into a challenge that could also serve as an engaging onboarding experience for new users. From outlining user flows to building the information architecture, we collaborated tightly across roles to shape this feature into a system that didn’t just inform—but inspired.
