NxtMock: Designing an AI-Powered Interview Coach for Real-World Readiness
NxtMock: Designing an AI-Powered Interview Coach for Real-World Readiness
Led the design of an AI-powered mock interview platform that empowers users to practice real-world interviews, receive personalized feedback, and track progress—bridging the gap between preparation and performance.

Introduction
NxtMock is an AI-based interview preparation platform that simulates real-world interview scenarios to help students and professionals sharpen their skills. It provides users with role-specific questions, real-time AI feedback, and a performance dashboard to boost their readiness for job interviews.
As the Lead Designer, I owned the end-to-end design process—right from initial user research to delivering a seamless, responsive product experience. My focus was to ensure NxtMock was intuitive, engaging, and genuinely useful in improving user confidence.

Challenge
We discovered critical problems through research and early beta feedback:
1. Engagement & Relevance
Mock interviews often felt generic, failing to reflect real-world situations.
Users needed contextual practice tailored to specific job roles or domains.
2. Feedback Gap
Users were uncertain how to interpret their performance or improve over time.
Lack of structured feedback reduced repeat usage and confidence.
3. Platform Usability
The initial prototype had usability barriers across mobile and desktop.
Users desired a frictionless, guided experience with minimal onboarding.

Solution
I designed a complete overhaul of the product experience:
1. Domain-Based Interview Simulator
Enabled users to choose specific domains (e.g., HR, Software Dev, Data Science).
Dynamically generated question sets to simulate real company interviews.
2. AI Feedback Loop
Designed a real-time feedback system offering:
Sentiment analysis
Keyword coverage
Tone, clarity, and pacing evaluations
Included progress tracking visuals and actionable improvement suggestions.
3. Frictionless UX
Created a mobile-first, responsive design for accessibility.
Introduced guided interview flows, micro-interactions, and friendly prompts.

My Role
As Lead Designer, I:
🎨 Owned Product Design End-to-End
Defined the UX architecture, UI design system, and component logic.
Created wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes.
🧠 Led Research & Testing
Conducted user interviews, usability tests, and iterative design validation.
Mapped pain points into design decisions with measurable outcomes.
🤝 Collaborated Cross-Functionally
Worked with developers to build AI-integrated UI components.
Partnered with product and business stakeholders to align user needs with growth goals.
Conclusion
NxtMock is redefining interview preparation with AI. By combining real-world simulation, dynamic feedback, and thoughtful design, the platform now offers users a meaningful way to practice, learn, and grow.
Key Outcomes:
🚀 Launched MVP within 8 weeks
📊 1000+ users onboarded in Q1 with 30% repeat usage
💬 90% of surveyed users found AI feedback “very helpful”
As Lead Designer, I ensured that design was not just about screens—but about driving outcomes that mattered to users and the business.
